My New Years Resolutions

I've been thinking long and hard on what I want to accomplish this year. I've honestly never been one to make "New Years Resolutions" and from what I know, people that do either 1) become overly committed at the start of the years and then slowly fall back to the nature of their ways or 2) claim they'll make a change but never follow through.

I've never met someone who's said on New Years Eve, "WOW, I actually followed through with my resolution for this year, I CAN'T WAIT TO MAKE A NEW ONE!!" ... or maybe I just know lazy people.

I think what's made me want to change my "anti-resolution" ways is knowing that failing is okay and this is really just for fun. I don't want to commit myself to this idea of extreme change. Just things that will make me happy and accomplished. In the end, that's all we want right? To have a happy new year!

These took me a while to think about but I came up with a list of personal goals I want to follow through on, these are really to help me feel my happiest and personal best but I've also included a few which I think will help you make changes in your lives.

1) Get rid of the unnecessary - As soon as I arrive home and hop off my 6 hour flight I want to look through old papers, clothes and shoes and get rid of what I don't need. My rule is, if I haven't worn or used it in six months, it has to go. I already did this with all the files on my laptop and it's honestly a huge sigh of relief. ---"Out of sight, out of mind"

2)Get rid of negative people - I got to do this two years ago and I feel like it has been one of the best things to ever happen to me. Two years ago there were a couple of people in my life that weren't as supportive and honestly didn't really let me be... well, me. Having them out of my life has made me realize the people in my life  are seriously so supportive and truly accept me for being the weird, awkward, clumsy and silly person I am. Why would you bother being friends with such negative people? This doesn't have to be a resolution to get rid of fake friends but maybe ex-boyfriends, bullies, people that just get in the way of your happiness.

3)Just do it - Take a life lesson from Nike, there's nothing worse than regretting not doing something. There's a few things in my life that scare me  but whenever that happens I just push the negative thoughts out of my mind and go for it. That's how I started this blog and my Youtube channel, I was scared of what my friends would think of me making videos but then I figured. This is my life. Not theirs and if they have a problem with what I'm doing, they're not real friends. It's all about doing what YOU want no matter how scared you might be, in the end you will be so proud of yourself!!

4) Make your body happy - This doesn't mean, go to the gym and lose x amount of pounds. My goal is to eat healthier and workout to stay fit. Right now, I walk up a flight of stairs and feel like I need to take a 5 minute break. The epitome of health... Working out can genuinely make you feel so much happier, because your body will feel happier and energized!

5) Find the time do the things you love - This is one of the biggest resolutions for me. I really LOVE to blog and make youtube videos and I feel like all my favourite bloggers and youtubers are always posting so much more content than I am. In some ways I feel like I'm really slacking but realizing that most youtubers and bloggers make videos and blog posts for a LIVING has helped me realize that I don't have to match the amount of content they post. I intern and go to school full time and although it may not seem like a 5 minute video takes up a lot of my time, it totally does! The amount of time it takes to plan, film, and edit a video can take up to a whole day or more. All those youtubers make videos professionally and have the time to do so. I don't want to stop blogging and posting videos, and although I PLAN on posting more this new year, I'm okay with knowing that my updates will have to happen when I can fit it into my schedule and not because I HAVE to post on a weekly basis.

6) Travel - "Life is a book and those who don't travel only read one chapter" I couldn't agree more with that statement. I love to travel and I hope I can fit in a few small trips this new year. Travelling can enrich your life so much! I'm typing this up right now as I'm in Mexico so I suppose I'm off to a good start.

7) Save Money - I will admit my savings fund is lacking and I'm not saying I won't spend any money but I will seriously consider every purchase I make. Thinking back to my other resolution of "Getting rid of the unnecessary" I feel its only suitable for me to not fall back into having a closet full of unnecessary items. My plans are to think of all my new purchases as investments; how much wear can I get from this? Can I wear it in multiple seasons? Will the quality last? By asking myself these questions, I'll have less "unnecessary items" and more money (that I can perhaps use to travel?)

That's it for my resolutions, I hope some of you may have found them helpful! Before this post gets too long I want to know, what are your New Years Resolutions?
