A Personal Post and and Outfit of the Day

Last weekend, I had spent my time downtown at Brooke's apartment, (or as my british followers would call it, flat - I prefer saying flat over apartment). I had packed my bags and checked the weather report to find suiting clothes -although the weather man had once again failed to tell us a correct forecast. I came up with these two outfits! I was quite honestly tired of wearing pants and was in a spring mood to wear skirts! Luckily, I had packed knee high socks incase the temperature dropped! It has also been requested for me to do more of these "outfit posts" so this is me giving the people what they want! Let them eat cake!: Day 1:
I dressed down this cute little button up sweater with a button down. Love how the collar pops out on the top and peaks out at the bottom, it certainly adds a little bit of colour to the grey tights, socks, tank top and the black skirt and navy sweater.
Sweater: Club Monaco
Tank Top (Grey): Forever 21
Blue button up: Bluenotes (surprisingly)
Black Chanel-esque skirt: Forever 21
Shoes: Forever 21
Jewelry: Nothing but my two pandora bracelets I always wear and a gold virgin mary medallion
Day 2:
dino arms in the moment, dino arms... haha, excuse the scrunchie on the floor. had just taken my hair out of a ponytail
This was my outfit on Monday. I had a busy day, a few trips down to campus to hand in an assignment and such.I love wearing this skirt! Every time I wear it my friend Jeanine always tells me I'm dressed like Blair from Gossip Girl. Love how the camel colour looks with the red as well! If you want a waist-high skirt like this, I know american apparel sells one identical to it. If you pair it with a top or jacket that hits you at the waist it also makes you look super tall! Especially if you wear wedge shoes like I did. I ended up wearing this with different tights than the ones in the picture
Jacket: Juicy Couture
Red Skirt: Forever 21
The weekend was very cold and very long. Lot's of walking in my wedge shoes, which I really didn't mind. At the end of the day Brooke and I sat in her "flat" wanting some tea so we headed on over to the Royal York for a very late tea treat. If you're from out of Toronto, it's basically a lovely hotel that happens to always be filled with British blokes. The Queen also happens to stay there when she visits. The tea was delicious and we enjoyed watching parts of the Oscars in the Lounge.
Some yummy cupcakes I brought over to Brooke's as a token of gratitude for letting me stay the night:

Incase you are curious about my nails, this was what they looked like. A glammed up statement nail:

I also plan on doing a tutorial for this hair look, such a great easy way to have messy curls! It also makes short hair look long because I came up with a technique ;)
Talk to you all soon!

Artsy Fartsy

Thought I would share a little bit of what I've been up to in school. For those of you who don't know, I'm studying Fashion Communications and I really love the program. I've been able to learn so much and improve my skills in a variety of classes that I would now say I was pretty mediocre at before. I wasn't able to snap amazing pictures of all my assignments but I want to show you all a little bit of my artwork!
I spent a few weekends ago painting a Juicy Couture ad using a grid and as I would squeeze paints out I just happened to adapt to the habit of biting the tip of paintbrush. I felt that it was something an artsy Audrey Hepburn would do. (see picture above - the finished assignment down below)
| Messy Messy Me. | Finished. Done in Gouache  paint
  | All skin, Chalk Pastel; The rest, A variety of    objects and fabric | Left: Pointillism; Right: Pencil
  | 8 Minute Watercolour sketches.
  | After adding some detail. My personal Favourite I'm glad I was able to share this little bit of my life with you all! I also may be posting more assignments as they come along, especially my finished dress which up until now, has been drafted a million times but is finally being cut out of muslin (yay! almost done!). a chic nail tutorial

With the Holiday of love in affect I felt that my nails needed a little sprucing up!!! I came across this nail look on Kylie Jenner's Instagram, however, she had it decorated as an alternative take of the "Tuxedo" nails I did a few weeks ago. I simplified it and came up with this look and tutorial so you can follow along! This nail tutorial is great for the Valentines Day Season because it has subtle hints of pink without necessarily looking like you match all the Valentines Day decorations. I feel that a lot of Nail tutorials I've seen so far for Valentine's day incorporate bright hues of pink, red, and little hearts galore... they make look cute but I think they're a bit too cliche. Here's the video tutorial! I hope you all find it helpful! : )

The great thing about this nail look is that you can wear them anytime during year! Not exclusive to any holiday or occasion! (Even thought they're perf for Valentines Day) They're quite literally (in my opinion) the new french nails! AND If you're looking for an alternative to the popular "Dagger Nails" I feel this nail tutorial will do the trick! The black sides create the illusion that you have your nails in that pointy shape but without dealing with the painful "cat woman" nails. Especially if you wear contacts...

Lots of love, thefashiontrigger

Who Says Nails Can't be Fancy

Hello world, got another lovely tutorial for you guys! I always enjoy seeing what Zooey Deschanel wears on the red carpet because of her fun, quirky and girly outfits. This year at the Golden Globes she did not disappoint in her custom made green Prada dress and tuxedo nail art. I loved her nails so much I decided to try it out myself.
Here's what you'll need:
  • Base Coat nail polish
  • White Nail polish
  • Black Nail Polish
  • toothpicks
  • and a Top coat nail polish
Optional:
  • Manicure tip stickers
I started off with removing my old nail polish with these OPI Nail wipes, I bought these quite a while ago and totally forgot I had them but they are amazing and I regret not using them before. These thin square wipes don't leave unnecessary lint on your nails and they perfectly remove nail polish without shedding after one use. I definitely recommend looking for these in stores (if they still sell them), or finding something similar.
After removing all dirt and old nail polish, put a base coat on your nails. I'm using Nail Envy by OPI  in "Sensitive and peeling"  which helps my nails stay strong and peel free. I also find that doing my nails on a straight surface helps (especially when your lazy and in bed) so I use an old notebook.
After applying your base coat, apply your first layer of white nail polish. Once it's completely dry apply a second layer. It's important to wait till it dries completely or you might end up with air bubbles or even worse, a super thick and impossible layer of nail polish to dry. I used Sally Hansen's Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear.
Once BOTH layers of white nail polish are completely dry you can begin with the nail design. Rather than using a black nail polish  I used OPI's "Baby it's 'coal' outside", which looks black when worn but has a subtle silver shimmer when in sunlight. You can however use a black nail polish like Zooey did.
You're going to want to have a clean sheet of paper so you can place a little drop of nail polish to dip your toothpick in.
You're gonna start of with placing a dot on the middle of your nail bar the cuticle.
From that dot you can paint two V"s in opposite directions of one another with the tip of the V starting at the dot.
You can now fill in the V's and round the outside to create the little bow ties
Add three dots going down from the middle of the bow tie, Zooey had the top "button" start small and then slowly get larger. I just made mine all the same size.
(Hopefully your bow ties and buttons aren't as messy as mine, ooppss)
Now just add the black tip as if you were to do a french manicure, I just swept my nail polish brush across but if you need help feel free to use nail tip stickers (only after everything else is COMPLETELY dry) or else you'll peel off all your hard work.
Allow it to fully dry and apply your top coat, I used D'Nails Professional System Finish coat
And now you're done! :)
Hope you guys enjoyed this tutorial! till next time!

The Best of the Best in Lip Products

Christmas break is over, and although I hate to admit that my time was mostly spent watching Dexter, I can say that those endless hours in-front of the T.V. were in some way experimental. How so? I've been trying out 3 of the most RAVED lip products out there... while watching Dexter of course. I'm not talking lip products with a nice colour and beautiful packaging, I'm talking about the products that we need the most (and occasionally forget about) in this cold weather (read: Horrid Freezer). Doing my research online, I found these products through endless blog posts, youtube reviews and personal recommendations.
  • Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter -$6.49 - Target
  • Maybelline Baby Lips-$2.99-Target
  • EOS Lip Balm-$3.29-Walgreens
By far, one of the most RAVED products was the Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter, so naturally I had high expectations, I generally steer away from the Revlon products but decided to give this a try. I was pleasantly surprised in the consistency, it's smooth, soft and yet vibrant, which is hard to find in traditional lipsticks. Hydration wise, it may instantly hydrate your lips but in the long run, this product doesn't have much else to offer. It comes in 20 different shades and offers some sheer options, I'd say this product is good if you want momentarily hydrated lips in a vibrant colour (which lipstick normally lacks) but otherwise doesn't offer your lips any protection in this cold winter weather. I purchased this in the colour "candy apple" (swatches down below)
"In Quenched" on left and "Cherry Me" on right
I came across Maybelline Baby Lips after having it gifted to me at a Magazine event in early December, I was given "In quenched" and loved the product so much I bought it in the colour "Cherry Me". I Decided this was a good shade because it could be compared to the Revlon Lip Butter in "Candy apple". This product offers 8hr hydration and clinically smoother lips in 4 weeks (although I felt a difference in the first week) and has SPF 20 (which we generally ignore in the winter, however still important). This product has more of a "chapstick" quality and the colour is surprisingly vibrant, but not as much as the Revlon Lip Butter. It does have a "sunscreen" taste but could be looked past if you really want to hydrate your lips while wearing colour. I like how quality wise it has more to offer and compared to the Revlon Lip butter, I like this one more, but ultimately it's up to you. (swatches down below)

EOS lipbalm in "Strawberry Sorbet"
Now, the EOS Lip Balm has been extremely raved and recommended, and I have to say I like it as much as Maybelline Baby Lips, it has a thicker consistency when compared to "In quenched" and can easily be worn under a lipstick. It is 95% organic and 100% natural, which is something I've been trying to find more of thanks to my friend Brooke, who has shown me all the benefits of organic makeup (her link down below). The EOS lip balm is also "packed with antioxidant-rich vitamin E, soothing Shea butter and jojoba oil", it's not tested on animals and is Gluten-free. I really like how environmentally friendly this product is, how much moisture I get and how smooth my lips are after using it. Recommended if you simply want something to moisturize your lips and don't care for colours. I bought this in Strawberry Sorbet (which btw tastes amazing) and Summer fruit. (Swatch down below) ----- Strawberry Sorbet is a limited edition EOS lip balm so I would recommend picking it up before they're all gone.

Swatches from left to right: Maybelline "In quenched" and "Cherry Me", EOS Lip Balm "Strawberry Sorbet", Revlon Lip Butter "Candy Apple"

The lighting isn't the best but as you can see, the EOS lip balm has less of a shine than "In quenched" which makes it great to wear under lipstick. "Cherry Me" appears very pink but when worn has more of a red colour.

The Tales of a traveling gypsy

This is more of a personal post and as some of you may know from my twitter (@michellyy) or maybe even my youtube (thefashiontrigger1) -shameless self promotion, I know- but I have been traveling the country -and by that I mean just the East coast of the USA. The trip to Florida isn't glamourous and cute but what is, is the amazing scenery you drive by and the cute towns you stop in for the night. Upon embarking on our trip I booked a hotel in cute ol' Savannah, Georgia for the drive back home. The hotel, I'm sure of, was haunted. It didn't bother me at all, and it didn't even bother me when I happened to awake at 3am from a restless night, and it didn't even bother me when I happened to hear sounds in the room from my lack of sleep and my all nighter spent eating hotel ice in the corner of my room. It was quite an experience, coming from a scifi junkie who enjoys watching Ghost hunters on a weekly basis. Savannah Georgia scenery The view from our hotel balcony[/caption] The next day my family woke up bright and early for a little sightseeing. Savannah has and always will be one of my favourite places in the world. Walking around the cute picturesque streets of Savannah we payed our favourite antique store a visit, here are some of my personal pictures from that day
